Grayrock/Graysill Chute Out

Round up a posse of six or more like-minded skiers/riders and join the San Juan Ski Company this spring for its second annual Grayrock/Graysill Chute Out April 6-7.

It’s steep, spring corn skiing at its best, along with a barbeque lunch and a “wild” ride on snowmobiles (to meet the snowcat).  The San Juan Ski Company, based at Durango Mountain Resort, is Colorado’s largest snowcat skiing operation with almost 60 miles of terrain.

Skiers and snowboarders will ride snowmobiles (instead of riding in our snowcoach) to the snowcat rendezvous. From there, our snowcat will haul you to the highest drops where you can access some of the steepest, gnarliest lines in the Southern San Juan Mountains. Weather and conditions permitting, our guides will take you down chutes, couloirs and steep open faces on Graysill Mountain and Grayrock Peak.

For a bird’s-eye view of the terrain, goggle Grayrock Peak, Colorado, on Goggle Earth. Maps of this area are also on our website.

High-altitude corn skiing works up a hearty appetite – so for lunch, barbeque burgers, Southwestern-style, with all the fixin’s, will prepared by SJSC staff and served at the bottom of the lunch run.

Skiers/riders will also be filmed for a SJSC video.

This special is weather-dependent and subject to change based on weather and snow conditions and avalanche danger. (Instead, guests might be skiing powder!) Price is $275 per person (includes lunch and snowmobile ride to the snowcat).

The Chute Out cannot be booked online. Call 1.800.208.1780 for information and reservations.
